The 4 Factors of Impactful Fundraising Emails

Champion your message and boost your revenue. Here’s the secret sauce to engaging donors and maximizing the visibility of your DonorPerfect Online Form through email.

Keep it short

1. Keep it short.

A text-heavy email can cause your message to get lost in the tiny confines of an iPhone screen. Plus, people are busy, and they make decisions about whether to read your email quickly. A long block of text can send your email to the trash bin. That’s why it’s best to keep your content light on copy. In order to say it all in a few sentences,

Copy should include:
  • A concise invitation to support your mission that features an individual who has benefited from donors’ support
  • A simple explanation of how donations impact your mission (This could include fixed donation amounts and what they provide.)
  • A big, heartfelt “Thank You!”

2. Show and tell.

Don’t just tell, show and tell.

Quality visual content should be an essential component of your fundraising emails. Be sure to include photos that illustrate what you’ve been able to achieve because of donor support.

Add your form. Donate Button

3. Add your form.

It’s easy to add your DonorPerfect Online Form to an email. Grab your favorite donation button from the Online Donation Button Library and drag it into your email. Copy your DonorPerfect Online Form link and link the button to your form. When donors click the button, they’ll be directed to your DonorPerfect Online form. Just like that! You can also use your own button or link your form to text.

4. Define the donation.

Consider outlining what each level of donation can provide your mission.

Not to mention, an appealing donation description could cause a donor to raise the amount they originally planned to give.

For example, an animal shelter might say:

  • Your $10 dollar donation gives a shelter dog or cat a blanket and a month’s worth of food.
  • Your $20 dollar donation gives a shelter dog or cat a toy, blanket, 6 months of heartworm preventative medicine, and a month’s worth of food.
  • Your $50 donation gives a shelter dog or cat annual vaccinations, a toy, blanket, 6 months of heartworm preventative medicine, and a month’s worth of food.

Note that this format could apply to a monthly giving program by simply saying, “For just $10 a month, you’ll give a shelter dog or cat…”

Speaking of show and tell, here’s an example of a fundraising email that reflects the steps above.
