Who owns DonorPerfect?

DonorPerfect is owned by its founders and some of its employees, with no plans to seek funding from investment bankers. We reinvest 20% of our revenue in Research and Development, allowing us to remain financially healthy for all of our 40-plus years of operations.

Why is DonorPerfect employee-owned?

Our product decisions are rooted in a simple question: what is best for our users? We are not simply looking for the quick buck or the short-term fix. We are committed to building and sustaining lasting relationships with our customers based on understanding, collaboration, and trust. Our industry is small and we’ve seen it happen time and time again: today’s venture-funded startup is tomorrow’s acquisition by the big guys. Maybe that’s a good thing for the investors, but not for the users.

How does DonorPerfect differ from its publicly-traded competitors?

DonorPerfect is top-ranked in market share, behind only publicly traded solutions. We are also the largest independent, private provider. Our competitors are owned by either venture capital or private equity firms, and all will in time be sold in order to satisfy the investment criteria of the investment funds that own them. Our interests are aligned with those of our customers, while our competitors’ interests are aligned with those of their investors.

Why have financial investors bought so many of the companies selling software to nonprofits?

Financial investors buy companies so that they can sell them to a larger investor after a few years. Often these sales are to bigger software companies – like Blackbaud – who discontinue or depreciate the software, marooning customers on abandoned software platforms.
